Sildamax 100mg vs Cenforce 100: are they the same medication?

Sildamax 100mg and Cenforce 100 are two separate brand names for products that both contain 100mg of sildenafil citrate as their active ingredient. They are manufactured by different Indian pharmaceutical companies, sold under different names, and searched for separately in the UK – yet at the level of active ingredient and dose, they are nominally identical.

Understanding what is actually the same and what genuinely differs between them – and what matters most to anyone researching these products – requires looking at each in turn.

What Sildamax is

Sildamax is a brand name for a sildenafil citrate 100mg tablet manufactured by Agron Remedies, an Indian pharmaceutical company. Like other generic sildenafil products produced for export from India, it is manufactured to contain the same active ingredient as branded Viagra and licensed generic sildenafil products, at the same dose.

Sildamax is not licensed for sale in the United Kingdom. It has not been assessed by the MHRA. There is no regulatory verification of its actual sildenafil content, purity, or manufacturing standards to UK requirements.

What Cenforce 100 is

Cenforce 100 is a sildenafil citrate 100mg tablet manufactured by Centurion Laboratories, a different Indian pharmaceutical company. Centurion Laboratories also produces a broader range of sildenafil strengths under the Cenforce brand – 100mg, 150mg, 200mg – as well as combination products.

Cenforce 100 is likewise not licensed for sale in the United Kingdom and has not been assessed by the MHRA.

What is the same between them

At the level of stated active ingredient and dose, Sildamax 100mg and Cenforce 100 are identical:

  • Both contain sildenafil citrate 100mg as the active ingredient
  • Both work through the same mechanism – PDE5 inhibition – requiring sexual arousal to produce their effect
  • Both carry the same primary contraindication – neither should be taken with nitrate medications
  • Both are not licensed in the UK and have not been assessed by the MHRA
  • Both are produced in India for export to markets where their sale is legal

What differs between them

Manufacturer

Agron Remedies manufactures Sildamax; Centurion Laboratories manufactures Cenforce. They are separate companies with separate manufacturing facilities, quality systems, and production processes. Both operate under Indian pharmaceutical regulatory oversight (the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation), which has different standards and scope to the MHRA.

Inactive ingredients and formulation

Pharmaceutical tablets contain much more than their active ingredient. Excipients – binding agents, fillers, coatings, and disintegrants – make up the majority of the tablet by weight and affect how the tablet dissolves, how quickly the active ingredient is released, and tolerability. Different manufacturers use different excipient formulations.

For men who experience intolerance to one product – unusual digestive discomfort, for example – the difference in excipients between Sildamax and Cenforce may be relevant. However, this cannot be predicted in advance, and individual responses vary.

Appearance and packaging

The tablets are visually different – different colours, coatings, embossing, and packaging. This has no pharmacological significance but affects how confidently a purchaser can identify what they have received.

What matters most: the shared regulatory status

The most important characteristic that Sildamax and Cenforce 100 share is not their active ingredient – it is their regulatory status in the UK. Neither has been assessed by the MHRA. For both products, this means:

  • No independent verification that the tablet contains the stated 100mg of sildenafil
  • No assessment of the purity or composition of inactive ingredients
  • No evaluation of manufacturing consistency or quality control to UK standards
  • No clinical trial data submitted to or reviewed by UK regulators

Independent testing of unlicensed sildenafil products purchased online has found meaningful variation in actual active ingredient content – some containing significantly more or less than labelled. A tablet labelled as 100mg containing significantly more sildenafil carries proportionally higher side effect risk. There is no way for a consumer to determine from the packaging whether a specific batch contains what it claims.

Licensed sildenafil at 100mg in the UK

Licensed generic sildenafil 100mg is available in the UK from multiple MHRA-approved manufacturers. These products have been through the regulatory process – their quality, safety, and efficacy have been assessed. They are available on prescription from a GP and, at 50mg, over the counter from a UK pharmacy without a prescription following a brief pharmacist consultation.

The active ingredient in a licensed generic sildenafil 100mg tablet is pharmacologically identical to that in Sildamax or Cenforce 100. The difference is not what is in the tablet – it is the certainty that what the label says is what is actually in the tablet.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sildamax stronger than Cenforce 100?

No. Both contain 100mg of sildenafil citrate. At the same dose of the same active ingredient, there is no pharmacological basis for one being stronger than the other. Any perceived difference between them would most likely reflect variation in formulation, individual response, or batch inconsistency.

Why do different brands of sildenafil exist if the active ingredient is the same?

Generic pharmaceutical manufacturing is a large global industry. Once a drug’s original patent expires, multiple companies can manufacture the active ingredient. Different brands reflect different manufacturers competing in markets where they can legally sell – often markets with different regulatory frameworks to the UK.

Are there other unlicensed sildenafil brands besides Sildamax and Cenforce?

Yes. Numerous sildenafil products are manufactured in India and other countries for global export markets, sold under various brand names. The regulatory status of all of them in the UK is the same – none are licensed by the MHRA for sale in the UK market.

Can I switch between Sildamax and Cenforce without any difference in effect?

At the stated dose of sildenafil, the pharmacological effect should be equivalent. However, given that neither product’s actual content has been verified by UK regulators, there is no guarantee that what is labelled is what is present in any specific batch of either product. Consistency of effect cannot be guaranteed with unlicensed products in the way it can with licensed medicines.
